The famous Shaolin Monks of China developed Wing Chun Kung Fu. According to the legend. After beginning to develop a martial art to defeat all others, their temple (Shil Lum Temple) was attacked by an overwhelming force and all but one of the Shaolin Elders perished in the resulting battle.
The one elder who survived, a nun by the name of Ng Mui, escaped with this 'almost complete' Kung Fu system and finished it 'in secret.'
After this, Ng Mui began to teach this new system to a young orphan girl, whom she named Wing Chun (new hope). As such this Kung Fu system also became known as Wing Chun Kung Fu.
Wing Chun Kung Fu was then secretly passed down from generation to generation, through martial artists such as Dr. Leung Jan and Chan Wah Shan. This continued until the 'Modern Grandfather' of Wing Chun, Yip Man began to teach the system publicly (for the first time) in Hong Kong during the mid 1950's. He taught students such as Yip Chun, William Cheung, Leung Ting and the legendary Bruce Lee!
William Cheung in his early adulthood fled Hong Kong and moved to Melbourne knowing the full 'Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu' system. Shortly after opening a Kung Fu school in Melbourne, William began mentoring a promising young student by the name of Joe Molnar.
Since these beginnings Sifu Joe Molnar has gone on to successfully run the 'World Class' Knox Wing Chun Kung Fu School. Sifu Joe Molnar is well known and highly regarded in the martial arts community both locally and internationally.
A long time student of Sifu Joe Molnar is Sifu Peter Atkin, the Head Instructor (Sifu) and proprietor of Eastern Wing Chun Kung Fu.
